The Button Looks Stuck (But I’m Not): Behind the Scenes of My Free Webinar Set-Up
Automation, Glitches & Heart: What It Really Takes to Offer Free Teachings Online
There’s a word in my business that always makes me want to hide under a blanket.
Automation.
I know, I know — it’s supposed to make things easier. But for someone like me, who thrives on connection, presence, and intuition, automation feels like its distant, mechanical cousin. It’s all buttons, boxes, and logic flows that make me long for the simplicity of just talking to someone.
And yet, here I am, once again, setting up a free webinar. Because even if I dread the tech... I love this part.
Why I Still Offer Free Webinars (Even When Tech Doesn’t Love Me Back)
These free events are one of my favourite ways to meet new pet parents — and reconnect with those who’ve followed my work for years.
Whether you’ve just stumbled across me or you’ve been quietly nodding along to my emails for ages, showing up to something live changes everything.
Most of the time, you get to know me through my writing or videos. But I don’t often get to know you. That’s why webinars matter to me. They’re a place where we come together. And since I don’t teach in person, it’s the closest we get to sitting across from one another.
It’s my way of opening the door.
What You See (and What You Don’t)
Let’s pull back the curtain for a moment.
To create that invitation you see to my free webinar, here’s what actually has to happen:
I design the page (with a photo of me and my cat, of course).
I connect that page to a sign-up list.
I make sure that when you fill it in, you get an automated confirmation email.
And that you're added only to this event list (not sent emails for something you didn’t sign up for).
It’s a beautiful thing, when it works. But there’s always one hiccup...
Enter: Automation (and Why It Keeps Me Up at Night)
I used to hire a tech expert to help with these setups. But when you're offering these events for free — as I often do with webinars and 3- or 7-day live sessions — the budget can quickly get eaten up. So over time, I taught myself.
I’m not a tech expert. I’m just a determined person with a patient audience.
Which is how, last night, I found myself still awake at 2am, troubleshooting an issue. A few people had emailed to say the button wasn’t working. They’d tried registering multiple times.
I checked everything. The automation was capturing them. The emails were going out. But on the surface, it looked like the button was stuck. No confirmation message. No satisfying "click." Just... nothing.
And if you’ve ever clicked something online and nothing happened? You know how it feels. You wonder: Did it work? Should I try again?
So there I was, late at night, not coding, not debugging — but communicating. I added a note right to the page:
“Don’t worry — your seat is saved. It just looks stuck. Check your inbox and you should see your confirmation email soon.”
I can’t always control what the screen does — but I can promise this: I’m still here behind it, doing my best to make sure you feel seen, supported, and welcomed.
The Truth About Automation
When it works, automation is genius. It sends the right emails to the right people, makes sure no one gets spammed, and helps me stay sane.
But when it doesn’t? It reminds me that all of this — my business, my teaching, my connection with you — is built on more than systems.
It’s built on intention.
On late-night problem-solving.
On kindness from people like you who take a moment to email me when something isn’t quite right.
Want to Join the Webinar (Glitch and All)?
They say I’ve got a determined spirit when it comes to sharing my teachings — and I suppose it’s true. Glitches, tech hiccups, or late-night fixes... I keep going. Because I believe in the power of this work.
So I’m spreading the word about my upcoming webinar — and if you know someone who might benefit too, I’d love it if you shared it with them.
This session is about something many of us grapple with quietly: confidence.
We’ll be diving into the 3 missing pieces that can take your animal communication to a whole new level — especially if you’ve ever had that voice of doubt whisper, “Am I just making this up?”
